Reason i ask is iv just got a new camcorder for the first time in my life to make inline skating edits on my pc and its taking AGES as its playing it in real time while uploading. then its taking another 20mins just up add clips to windows movie maker AHHHH

Depending on the software you use and the computer you are using, it then takes several minutes to divide the footage into individual scenes because the software goes through the video and does scene detection on your computer.
The scene detection goes faster with better computers, but the capture time will always be one minute per minute of video.
