That is a hard question to answer. It really all comes down to personal preference. Obviously Rollerblade has been out there since the beginning and are still one of the best selling skates. As mentioned above, K2s are great skates as well for those who like soft boot skates (though most people make soft boots now).
If you're looking more at aggressive skates, there are even more brands out there that are very popular (Remedyz, Razors, Xsjado (pronounced Shadow)).
The best skates out there are the ones that fit your fee the best and are the most comfortable for you. I've skated many different types of skates and have yet to pick a favorite or distinguish which are the best.

ive heard K2's are the best...but i could be wrong.
